ADRASTUS COLLECTION: RADICALISM AND EXPERIMENTATION IN 21ST CENTURY ART

With the turn of the century, the Adrastus collection began to take shape, formed by works of the 21st century, which at this point bring not only a simple chronological milestone but a definition of interests in our global context, outstanding works of contemporary art marked by the radicalism and experimentation and for the possibilities of production. In addition to the arrangement between works of the same class, the focus remains anchored in the network of possible articulations, which achieve a contribution without borders and a poetic vision of our reality. The collection gathers about a thousand artworks by more than 150 artists, who traverse the perspectives of 40 countries and specific contexts, and each in his or her own way, dialogues with the urgencies of our global present.

In the works that make up the Adrastus collection, we find new accounts of legitimation that seek to open interpretative cracks in the narratives already established as the norm of culture and social history. With the curatorship of Patrick Charpenel, the couple Javier Lumbreras and Lorena Pérez-Jácome intend to build a specific path in the history of recent art, the result of more than two decades bringing together works that displace contemporary economic and political structures, acting in favor of the constitution of a new imaginary in the face of the limitations of the present. Through an anti-hegemonic perspective, the collection brings together artists who develop their research seeking to identify and activate mechanisms to produce a difference in times of globalization and precariousness. Works that, to a certain extent, work for the denaturalization and dismantling of the canonical order of organization and understanding of the history of art and society, based on economic, political, geographical, and cultural issues.
